How do solar lights work?
Solar lights have a solar panel that converts sunlight into electrical energy. The energy is stored in a rechargeable battery and is used to light the fixture at night. Your solar light will automatically light up when it begins to get dark and recharge when the sun comes up.
What is the difference between solar lights and traditional outdoor lighting?
Solar lights are the easiest and safest kind of outdoor lights to install and maintain. Outdoor solar lighting turns on automatically, has no wires, is easily installed, and the solar panel will last upwards of 25 years!
Solar lights have LED's - "light emitting diodes" - that offer many advantages over traditional light sources. They consume less energy, last longer, and offer a more subtle glow perfect for outdoor accents. LED bulbs will never burn out during the lifetime of the light, unlike traditional lights that need replacements often. Typically, 1-2 LED's are equivalent to a night light while 6-8 LED's are equivalent to a porch light.
How long do outdoor solar lights stay on?
The length of time that your solar light will stay on depends on how much sunlight it has received during the day. Most lights will stay lit for up to 10 hours with a fully charged battery. When you first receive your light, wipe off the solar panel and charge it for a full day. If there is an on/off switch, keep it off until the battery is fully charged.
What is the advantage of buying a solar light?
They do not draw any electricity from the grid, making them cost nothing to operate. And because they don't need to be plugged in, you won't have to worry about any wires in your yard. They're environmentally friendly, save energy, and are very easy to install. Installation instructions come with every light.
Do solar lights require maintenance?
Compared with traditional lights, there is much less maintenance to be concerned with. You will occasionally have to clean the solar panel surface and check the battery. Every 3-5 years you will have to replace the battery that is used to store energy collected from the sun.
